GOSPEL SINGER BARBARA JONES DIED




Gospel singer Barbara Jones died at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

The 62-year-old artiste who is known for songs such as Gospel Bells,Thank You Lord For Your Blessings died from acute leukemia.

Her husband Hector Lewis told The Gleaner that his wife contracted the chikungunya virus (chik-V) in September, just before she left for England to do some shows.

“She had to cancel everything, the chik-V worsened her condition and she was hospitalised for two weeks,” he said.

Jones returned to Jamaica at the end of September where she got the official news from her doctor that it was now acute leukemia.

While undergoing chemotherapy he said his wife developed an infection which contributed to her death.

Barbara who started her career in the early 70s began as a secular singer with songs such as Sad Movies and Just When I Needed You Most.

She later gave her heart to Christ in 1991 and embraced gospel music.

The singer died leaving her husband and three children.
